How to Apply

We have a simple 3 step process to apply for a position with the Department of State Hospitals as a Police Officer.
Step 1: Get a CalCareers Account
You need to create a CalCareers account so that we can guide you through the rest of the process. Once you have a account created you can move on to step 2.
Step 2: Register and Take the Exam
Now that you have created a CalCareers account, It's time to register for the exam. Registration only takes a few minutes. The Exam is 100% online.
Step 3: Apply
Once you have registered for the exam we will guide you through the rest of the process via email. Make sure that you check your junk mail. Future notifications will come from recruit@dsh.ca.gov. After you pass, we will send you an email to choose your location.

Minimum Qualifications

Correctional Officer

* EDUCATION: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

* EXPERIENCE: Prior Correctional experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities with or without reasonable accommodation as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

* CERTIFICATION: Prior Correctional experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities with or without reasonable accommodation as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

* ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: Certified Correctional Officer by the New Hampshire Association of Counties. NH Driver’s License or ability to obtain one. A drug screen & background check will be required of all conditional hires

Become a Youth Counselor

Wisconsin Department of Corrections is currently hiring Youth Counselors at Lincoln Hills School/Copper Lake School, located in northern Wisconsin near the cities of Merrill, Tomahawk, Wausau and Rhinelander. Youth Counselors use cutting-edge research and evidence-based approaches to implement lasting change with a positive impact for the youth of Wisconsin.

STARTING PAY UP TO $30.89 PER HOUR
This position is in pay schedule/range 05-31 with starting base pay of$19.89/hour, plus a $4/hour add-on and an additional $2/hour add-on ($25.89 total). Employees are also eligible for an additional, temporary $5/hour add-on. Differential pay is available for certain night and weekend shifts.  

Candidates who are new to State service or who have not held any position with the State in the last five years may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of $2,000.

About Merrimack County DOC

The Merrimack County Department of Corrections operates a direct supervision correctional facility located on Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen, New Hampshire. Our inmate population housed inside the facility includes male and female inmates who are awaiting arraignment, pre-trial and/or sentenced, administrative transfers from other correctional facilities, and federal inmates.

Our inmate population also expands into the community. Those individuals who have been sentenced by the court and have met all departmental requirements may also have the opportunity to be granted the electronic monitoring program and/or be assigned to the County's Successful Offender Adjustment and Re-entry (SOAR) program.
